CLOVES

CRISTA offers you the most premium grade whole Cloves imported from the main producing areas in Southeast Asia. Our supplier base has been built over four decades of trust and our spices frequently sampled to pass American Spice Trade Association (ASTA) specifications for cleanliness.

Origin

The Maluku (spice) islands provide the majority of the world’s supply. Cloves are tree buds picked and dried before flowering.

Forms

Brown nail like buds or ground powder.

How to Store

Store in an airtight jar in a cool, dry place.

Taste

Cloves have a distinctive aroma which is pungent and somewhat woodsy; accompanied by a sweet and musty taste.

Crista Tips

When buying Cloves, look for Cloves that are large (most visible head and stems). The colour should ideally be reddish-brown. Use sparingly and at the beginning of cooking. When adding whole Cloves to a savory dish, they should be removed before serving as unknowingly biting into a whole Clove may ruin the taste of the dish while also chipping a tooth!
SCIENTIFIC REMEDIES OF CLOVES:
  • Stops blood clots
  • Relieves denture problems
  • Treats stomach ulcers
  • Prevents cold sores
DID YOU KNOW?

Cloves come from the Latin name “clavus”, meaning nail – they are thus known as the black rose. Penang Cloves are the largest cloves.

CRISTA QUALITY CONTROL TIP:

Spices should ideally be stored between 10 and 15 degrees Celsius. Under ideal conditions, ground spices will keep for 1 year and whole spices for 2 years. Tightly close the container immediately after use and return it to a cold storage space as soon as possible.
