Origin

There are over 3,000 varieties of chili in the world. Chili powder is the dried blend of Chile peppers and other spices. Its origin is American although commonly mistaken to be of Indian origin.

Forms

Dry Chili is consumed in whole, ground or crushed form although CRISTA recommends buying ground chili only through a reputed specialist.

How to Store

Store in an airtight jar, in a dark dry place.

Chili gets more potent as it cooks hence it is suggested that it is used sparingly. To reduce the heat of chilis, soak the chilis in a solution of 3 parts mild wine vinegar and 1 part salt for an hour. Use at the end of cooking.

CRISTA QUALITY CONTROL TIP:

Spices should ideally be stored between 10 and 15 degrees Celsius. Under ideal conditions, ground spices will keep for 1 year and whole spices for 2 years. Tightly close the container immediately after use and return it to a cold storage space as soon as possible.
